Hey yo, Healdsburg! It’s me again, your girl Simone — here to lay down the local calendar for you, like I do each week. Looks like we’ve got some tight plans for the picking through end of June. Including but not limited to…
An elaborate love-themed film festival in Healdsburg, with starlight screenings and concerts and even a block party
Two separate standup comedy shows this Friday night — one in town, and one in the sticks
The final week of trippy “Edge Esmeralda” techie talks
A chance to try the food at Healdsburg’s future Chinese food place (I hear the orange chicken slaps)
Enough country music concerts to keep your boots scuffed and your heart full
And so many more ways to squeeze the juice out of these hot summer days and nights 🧃
But first, before we begin! Here’s a quick reminder to keep telling all your friends, neighbors, lovers, family members, etc. — even your secret local foes — about The Healdsburg Newsletter. You can send them this link to subscribe. (Or just forward them the very email you’re reading right now.) Because local news and events are best enjoyed together, as one big Healdsburg family. 🥰
AIR OVER HEALDSBURG

The fog overhead was delightfully thick this morning. I took the opportunity to have some fun haunting the misty woods outside Healdsburg in my nightclothes, a la “Wuthering Heights”… (Photo: Holly Wilson)

My tiger lily seized the morning to ham it up a little, too, with a fresh bloom in the fog! (Photo: Simone Wilson)

And now, voilà — some brilliant afternoon sunshine over Healdsburg. (Photo: Simone Wilson)

Sean Quan and Jenny Phan, the couple behind Forestville’s burned-down Bazaar Sonoma restaurant, just announced they’ll soon be opening a new Chinese food spot in Healdsburg. “Yes, the rumors are true!” they wrote in a recent newsletter to fans. “We’re working on a Chinese food court in the former Quail & Condor location on Healdsburg Avenue, named MeiMei Foods, or ‘Little Sister’ Foods. As we build out the space, we’re going on tour around town with soft opening popups. Our next stop is our friends at Lo & Behold, so come by on Tuesday to preview some dishes we’re working on for MeiMei!“ And the folks at Lo & Behold say: “Take out available too for music on the plaza.” (Image: Lo & Behold via Facebook)

City of Healdsburg hosts “Tuesdays in the Plaza” free outdoor concert series: Shawn Jones Band plays rootsy blues-rock from the gazebo (6-8pm)

Healdsburg photographer Tenay Macmillan got this stunning shot of Rocio “La Dama de la Cumbia” y Su Sonora playing “Tuesdays in the Plaza” a couple weeks back. (BTW, I also just noticed that Rocio shared a video on YouTube of her touring Healdsburg’s Abel de Luna Community Center while she was in town!) Tenay the photographer says of Rocio and her band: “They were amazing. Rocio is so magnetic whenever she performs here. Everyone was dancing, laughing, smiling… even puppies grooved.” See more of Tenay’s pics from the show below — including one for the pups. (Photos: Tenay Creative)

No image has ever captured the joy of music in the plaza quite like this dancing puppy portrait from Tuesday, June 9. Thank you for your eye, Tenay! (Photo: Tenay Creative)
