Afternoon, dearies! As we stare down the barrel of this wonderfully clear winter weekend about to kick off in town, I’m here with your regular guide to all the cool stuff happening in the Healdsburg area — locked and loaded and ready to go. Things have really begun to ramp back up compared to the past few weeks, which were rather hushed on the calendar front. Now, we’re looking at big plans like…

  • The grand reopening of Cloverdale’s historic drive-in diner

  • A weekly steelhead watch party out at Lake Sonoma

  • Loads of live music, including three free shows at the Elephant

  • An immigration raid protest in the Healdsburg plaza tomorrow

  • Short films from Sundance at Healdsburg’s new movie theater

  • A wintertime rose-pruning class at our local rose farm

  • Sun-catcher crafting for kids among the flowers at Dragonfly

  • And a sweet opportunity for us all to work on our 2026 vision boards together, at the Farm to Pantry warehouse

  • Plenty more reasons to crawl out of hibernation this month 🧸

But wait. Before we begin, I must remind you to share this newsletter with everyone you know. Here’s the subscribe link for you to send around — or just forward people this email, and they can click the link themselves. Thank you, love you, couldn’t do it without you! 💘

AIR OVER HEALDSBURG

ON THE CALENDAR

Friday, January 9
  • Lo & Behold closed for annual employee “winter break,” along with many other local restaurants and shops… so call ahead! (daily thru Jan 14)

  • Christmas tree dropoff at Healdsburg City Hall (daily thru Jan 16)

  • Movie showings this week at True West Cinemas: “Is This Thing On,” the new Bradley Cooper film about divorce and co-parenting; “Folktales,” a documentary about Norwegian teens and their sled dogs, currently up for a bunch of awards; “Song Sung Blue,” a Neil Diamond cover band romcom with Kate Hudson; and many more (daily, 11am-11pm)

I can’t wait to see “Folktales.” True West’s artistic director mentioned it in his latest newsletter: “The Oscars short list is out for best documentaries and I want to bring you into the loop on films in contention,” he wrote. “We are featuring Folktales this week in the North Lounge (quick reminder that tickets to films in the North are just $10!). This is a powerful and touching doc from two of my longtime filmmaker friends, Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing. I saw it premiere at Sundance last year and it played through the roof. Check it out... especially if you are a dog lover… and Healdsburg is full of them it seems.” (Image: True West Film Center via Mailchimp)

  • Trimates, a local jazz trio, plays Furthermore Wines (5:30-8:30pm)

  • Fourth annual “Northern Lights” lighted art walk through the Luther Burbank Center sculpture garden in Santa Rosa, featuring “dramatic new lighted scenes and displays” (nightly thru Jan 19, dusk-9:30pm)

  • Healdsburg High School boys soccer team plays home game vs. Cloverdale High (7pm)

  • Healdsburg High School girls soccer team plays away game at Cloverdale High (7pm)

Our undefeated girls soccer team is having quite the season this winter, as noted by both the Healdsburg Tribune and the Press Democrat. Here’s a great shot taken by local sports photographer Michael Lucid, from the last time we played Cloverdale in November (we’re in red). And by the way, speaking of Michael — he’s been incredibly generous, these past few years, to lend his services to the community for free. The Trib actually just ran a story about him, in the latest issue! Editor Christian Kallen writes: “Healdsburg’s student-athletes and their parents for the past several years probably know Michael Lucid, or certainly know of him. Or should. He’s been at most home games, absorbed in taking photos of the players — volleyball, basketball, on the track or the field — photos that capture the athletes in action, a snapshot in time. Though he publishes dozens, sometimes hundreds, of photos from events on his public photo stream on Flickr, and they are all available for download and home printing, he does not charge anyone for the photos.” Still, if you’d like to support his work, you can donate to Michael here. • Young at Heart Theatre troupe presents “Come Together,” a Beatles tribute performed by kids aged 4-10, at the Raven Theater (7pm)

  • Whiskey Dent plays Americana, rock, country and blues music at the Elephant in the Room pub: Free show (8pm)
