Morning, mainlanders! In case you missed it in my last newsletter, I’m with family in Hanalei Bay right now, on the profoundly green/gardenous island of Kauai. (Famous resting place of Puff the Magic Dragon and at least one of our retired James Bonds.) The lesson of the trip so far has been to slowwwww all the way down, and embrace the cycles of the day… to settle into a long line or a downpour, to linger in the shallows long enough to come nose-to-nose with a sea turtle (the ultimate zen masters among us!), to feel out the right moment for a sun frolic or a cloud nap or the next coconut, etc. Which is all kind of simple — and brimming with vacation privilege, I know — but in practice it feels profound. So perhaps we can weave a similar energy into our reading of today’s local event log, and into our schedules over the next week or two, as we glide between happenings like…

  • A gallery tour through Healdsburg that pairs art with flowers

  • The third coming of “No Kings” on the Healdsburg roundabout

  • Lots of cool sewing workshops — for making your own farmers market bags, fixing up your favorite old clothes and more

  • Free tax help at the library, as the filing deadline looms

  • A quasi block party on Center Street to celebrate El Som’s 40th

  • A guerrilla wordplay movement unfolding across town

  • Easter egg hunts among the grapevines… and enough boozy Easter brunch options to make the savior blush

  • Plenty more reasons to slow down and enjoy small-town life 🐢

I collected these Hanalei street flowers just for you. (Photo: Simone Wilson)

P.S. If you’re digging this newsletter, why not tell the rest of the town about it? You can send your friends and neighbors this link to subscribe — or just forward them this email, so they can click the link themselves. No Healdsburgian left behind, I say! 🚂

AIR OVER HEALDSBURG

Here’s a glimpse of the warm, windy scene over your heads this morning. Makes me feel closer to you all, as I waste away out here in the Pacific… ⛵️ (Photo: Holly Wilson)

ON THE CALENDAR

Wednesday, March 25
  • Healdsburg City Council holds annual goal-setting session at the Healdsburg golf course clubhouse (9am-4:30pm)

Our elected city councilmembers will be spending all today out at the golf course, getting straight on their priorities for 2026-27. Kind of like a mini corporate retreat, where the business is Healdsburg! Christian Kallen, editor of our local paper, called it “one of the most important city meetings of the year” in his Healdsburg Tribune newsletter yesterday. He added: “It is unclear if this will be live-streamed as other council meetings are, so attendance is recommended. The meeting includes two open public comment discussion periods, one toward the beginning and one at the end. Expect the first period to include a pitch for a ban on gas-powered leaf-blowers, spearheaded by former mayor Leah Gold.” See the day’s full agenda here. (Image: City of Healdsburg via Facebook)

  • Healdsburg High School swim team hosts home meet vs. Windsor High (3:30pm)

For a school of barely 500 students, Healdsburg High has a pretty stellar swim team. Read my reporting here on their 2025 season, and head to the high school pool this afternoon to cheer them on as they confront Windsor, their biggest rival (in a fun way). The kids like to call these meets “cats versus dogs,” seeing as the Windsor Jaguars are playing the Healdsburg Hounds — and the Hounds often hold their own, even though they’re up against a school with more than three times as many students and around twice as many swimmers.
