Hey, babes. As you may know already, I’m currently traveling abroad in India (see photo evidence below), sooooo in the interest of not missing any of the astounding magic unfolding right in front of me, I’m gonna keep this week’s event log short and sweet. It includes gems like:

  • The 134th annual Cloverdale Citrus Fair to our north

  • Lots of great theater, like an apartheid play and a ballet classic

  • Myriad ways to celebrate the holiday of love — with a fancy hotel “scent experience,” a classic ’90s romance flick, a broom-pulling workday, a steamy dance party and so much more

  • A near-suspicious number of Galentine’s affairs for the girlies

  • Everything else to have on your radar through mid-February 📡

Oh but before we begin, I’ve got a couple event-related notables for you! As you might have heard already, the Little Saint vegan cafe and art space just announced that alt-rock superstar St. Vincent is scheduled to play this tiny Healdsburg venue on a random Tuesday in March. (Prompting Sonoma Mag to declare Little Saint the “hottest venue in the country” today. Dramatic, yes, but I don’t entirely disagree!) The $97 tickets to St. Vincent sold out in an instant, of course, much like the venue’s surprise Beck show last year. Little Saint co-owner Laurie Ubben, who must be feeling pretty darn smug right now, tells the Press Democrat of St. Vincent: “Her ever evolving catalogue along with her reputation for exhilarating shows will play like a sweet surprise in our little venue. I know it will be a truly original and gripping performance that Healdsburg won’t soon forget.”

And secondly — another of our most hyped-up local events, the TOWN dinner series, has likewise sold out its first planned dinner of the season on Saturday, Feb. 28. (A characteristically chaotic affair with a “ski chalet” theme, during which a fake snowstorm will be pelting the Harmon Guest House hotel along Healdsburg Avenue all night long.) Anyway, organizers just released a small handful of additional tickets, so hop on those stat if the FOMO is starting to take hold…

Meanwhile, on the exact opposite end of the Earth, I’m over here ogling the Hindu pantheon at the temples of southeast India. And compiling your weekly Healdsburg Event Log, of course! The duality of man… (Photo: Simone Wilson)

You know what would make my vacation even more epic? If you could send this newsletter around to everyone you know (or at least the ones who give a hoot about Healdsburg) while I’m gone, so I can come back to a whole community on board. Give your people this link to subscribe, or just forward them a copy of the newsletter. Local news and events for all, I say! 💌

NOW, AIR OVER HEALDSBURG

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, my mother and I have managed to correspond well enough across time zones to bring you this glorious view of today’s sunrise over Healdsburg. (Photo: Holly Wilson)

And this was tonight’s sunset! Another stunner. BTW y’all, speaking of stunners, my mom’s birthday is next week — on Wednesday, Feb. 11 — so try and remember to send up a little hallelujah toward the hills west of Healdsburg that day, to honor our angel of the “Air” pics. Aka, the most beautiful and dependable part of The Healdsburg Newsletter, hands down… (Photo: Holly Wilson)

ON THE CALENDAR

Friday, February 6
  • Russian River Brewing Company’s cult favorite triple IPA “Pliny the Younger” on tap at various bars in Healdsburg, Windsor, Geyserville, Cloverdale and the wider region (daily thru Apr 2)

  • Movie showings this week at True West Cinemas: French film “Private Life” starring Jody Foster; Oscar-nominated animated film “Arco”; post-apocalyptic sci-fi film “Iron Lung“; encore runs of Shakespearean tragedy “Hamnet” and historical drama “The Testament of Ann Lee”; and many more (daily, 11am-11pm)

  • “Musical Bridge” interactive sound experience at The 222, to raise funds for a proposed accessible playground at Badger Park (6-7:30pm)

Healdsburg city spokesman Ray Holley told me about this event over email a couple weeks back. “The Musical Bridge is an AI-powered installation,” he said, “and its creator, Dr. Nolan Glasser, will explain how he created the work. It’s a trippy experience, right down your alley!” (Guess he’s really onto my vibe.) Best of all, the whole thing benefits the “Magical Bridge” accessible playground concept currently taking shape down at Badger Park. (Image: Magical Bridge Foundation)

  • The Pulsators, a New Orleans-style funk-rock band, plays Coyote Sonoma (7pm)

  • Healdsburg High School girls basketball team plays final home game of the season vs. St. Vincent de Paul High from Petaluma (7:30pm)

  • Nick Offerman, author of “Big Woodchuck,” speaks at the Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa: “An evening of comedy with woodworking and bookish mirth” (7:30pm)

  • Aki Kumar, aka “the Bollywood bluesman,” plays the Elephant in the Room pub (8pm)
