Healdsburg’s local farm-stand scene is thriving this season. “The Farm Stand is now fully restocked after that heatwave!” the folks from Dry Creek Flowers posted last week. “This weekend you can find cherry tomatoes! Lisianthus! Dahlias! Strawberries! Cucumbers! And lots more.” And they’re not alone. I’ve sprinkled all the farm stands I know about into this week’s event log… but please hit me up if you’ve got any other good ones on your radar! Our hometown movie theater is showing some real heavy-hitters right now. Here’s a note on True West’s current film lineup, from artistic director John Cooper: “Trying something new this week!” he says. “We are bringing in a limited run of a filmed live performance from Broadway of ‘Hadestown.’ I saw the musical right after it won the Tony Award and loved it for its pure creative vision. It is serendipitous that it is playing opposite ‘The Odyssey’ (definitely NOT a musical). More myth and magic in the air this summer.” And after that, he adds: “Next Thursday marks another great shift in our cinematic hero worship. The much-anticipated ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ will have preview screenings on Thursday, July 30 to launch its run at True West!” Then in the near future, John says Spanish-dubbed versions of both “The Odyssey” and “Spider-Man” will start playing on Sunday afternoons.
