š” New Restaurants + Jimtown Revival + Slower Speed Limits?
Whatās happening around here
Itās another splendid spring Wednesday in Healdsburg and Iām back with all the local news thatās fit to āletter. To be honest, Iām having some trouble finding the heart to chatter about restaurant openings and other fun local stuff, given this federal war on immigrants ā and on immigration-policy protesters ā that weāre watching play out across California right now. (The worst of it seems to be happening down in the Los Angeles area, but thereās been a spike of activity just an hour south of us in San Francisco, too, where ICE agents have reportedly been rounding people up at immigration court.) That said ā this life contains multitudes, and I suppose we can stay present to all of it. So hereās what weāll cover in todayās Healdsburg newsletter:
Three exciting new places to eat downtown
A long-awaited roadhouse revival along Highway 128
Speed limit changes set for a dozen-plus Healdsburg streets
Our future train station gets its finances sorted
And other local notables that have the neighborhood talking āļø
BUT FIRST, HOWāS THE WEATHER?
Healdsburgās forecast shows that these warm days and cool nights of late spring should carry right on through to summer, which officially starts two Fridays from now, on June 20. Meteorologists with the Bay Area office of the National Weather Service say to expect another week or so of mostly sunny skies, light winds and a few morningsā worth of serene cloud covers. āMarine layer season is here,ā they write on socials. āMost Californians know about this phenomenon, but what causes it? The main driver is the difference in temperature between the ocean and atmosphere. The California Current brings cool water down from the north while the typical Spring/Summer air mass is much warmer.ā Anyway! Hereās your full forecast, via the NWS:
Today š¤ļø Clouds in the morning, turning to sun. Light breeze. High 85° Low 50°
Tomorrow āļø Sunny with overnight winds. High 88° Low 52°
Friday āļø Sunny. High 83° Low 48°
Saturday š¤ļø Mostly sunny. High 82° Low 49°
Sunday š¤ļø Mostly sunny again. High 86° Low 50°
Monday āļø Full sun. High 87° Low 54°
Tuesday āļø Sunny and heating up. High 92° Low 55°
Also ā it should go without saying at this point, but early wildfire season is in full effect, and local fire agencies are counting on you (and your home) to be as ready now as youāll ever be for the next big blaze. This time of year also brings a flurry of prescribed burns. The latest few within smoking distance of Healdsburg were staged Saturday at Monanās Rill on St. Helena Road in unincorporated northeast Santa Rosa; Sunday at Laufenburg Ranch Preserve in Knights Valley, near Highway 128 and Franz Valley Road; and Monday at Saddle Mountain Open Space Preserve east of Santa Rosa.
